Job Description

Based at Various locations throughout Angus.

This job is workstyle 1 – Fixed.
 
In this workstyle most of your time is spent undertaking the direct delivery of front-line services work. Depending on your role there may be a limited requirement to access a specific council location during the course of the working week if you are not delivering your service at a council location.
 
Angus Council currently operates the following models in their early learning and childcare settings:
 
ELC Model 1 – children’s funded entitlement is 190 set days at 6 hours per day
ELC Model 2 – children’s funded entitlement is 152 set days at 7½ hours per day
ELC Model 3 – children’s funded entitlement is 228 set days at 5 hours per day
 
ELC settings in models 1 and 2 will open over term-time.
 
ELC Model 3 is different as these settings are open for more hours every day and are only closed to children for two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period, three weeks in July/August and a further three public holidays and five in-service days. Therefore, they are offering ELC over 46.6 weeks of the year. This also means staff can use their annual leave and non-working time in a different way to staff working term-time. Whilst some of the leave will be decided in advance (that is, when the setting is closed), staff working in these settings will also be able to apply for additional time off while the setting is open.
 
There are 3 positions available, you will be asked to indicate on your application form which position/s you are applying for:
  • Based at Monifieth Early Learning and Childcare Centre (ELC Model 3). Working 36.25 hours per week on various working patterns Monday to Friday, your working year is 251 days per annum. This is based on a working year of 261 days per annum, 10 days of which are non-working unpaid days.
  • Based at Carnoustie Early Learning and Childcare Centre (ELC Model 1 and 3).Working 36.25 hours per week on various working patterns Monday to Friday, your working year is 251 days per annum. This is based on a working year of 261 days per annum, 10 days of which are non-working unpaid days.

  • Based at Abbey View Early Learning and Childcare Centre (ELC Model 1), Arbroath. Working 36.25 hours per week, you will work up to 195 days per year on various working patterns (Monday to Friday), term‑time working or equivalent.

You will work collaboratively with schools and ELC staff to deliver a flexible, high quality, stimulating education and care-centred service designed to meet the needs of young children and their families, taking a lead role in the ELC setting, in collaboration with the SEYPs, through modelling and promoting good practice. You will also take lead responsibility, with SEYPs for planning and implementing curricular programmes and lead the staff team in the implementation of improvement plan and quality assurance procedures.
 
You will undertake specific management and operational duties as delegated by the ELCC manager, taking lead responsibility in their absence. You will lead the day-to-day supervision of SEYP, EYP and EYA staff in the operation of the ELC, including induction processes and professional review and development. You will also lead and be involved in personnel related matters in line with council procedures for all staff in the ELC.

Requirements

Membership of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or commitment to gain registration with the SSSC in accordance with their requirements is essential.

You must have the ability to become a member of the PVG Scheme.
