Job Description
Based at Angus House, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar.
Are you ready to help shape places that truly matter in Angus?
An exciting opportunity has opened within the Council’s Development Planning team, where you’ll play a pivotal role in creating places that work for the people, communities and environment of Angus. This is your chance to make a real, lasting difference while contributing to the response to the climate and nature crisis.
Why this Matters
We’re at a transformative point as we move toward completing our Evidence Report and continue to develop our innovative, collaborative approach to place based working. You’ll work directly with communities and partners to turn their visions for their towns and villages into meaningful, deliverable plans.
If you’re passionate about working alongside communities to shape how they grow and want to help create places that celebrate Angus’s heritage, culture and natural environment then this role is made for you.
What You’ll be Doing
As a Planning Officer, you’ll be at the heart of our most exciting work, including:
• Finalising the Evidence Report and moving into preparation of the Proposed Plan.
• Working directly with communities to shape place based plans rooted in local aspirations.
• Supporting project delivery that brings these plans to life.
• Contributing to pioneering work across Development Planning, Environment, Climate Change, Placemaking and Urban Design.
No two days are the same and that’s exactly what makes this role so energising and different.
Who We’re Looking for
This role is ideal for:
• Graduate Planners
• Recent Graduate Planners
• Experienced Planners
You don’t need to know everything. What matters most is curiosity, good judgement, strong evaluation skills, clear communication and a willingness to learn, experiment and take initiative. If that sounds like you, you’ll thrive here.
Why You’ll Love Working with Us
• You’ll be part of ground-breaking, nationally recognised work
• You’ll help shape the future of towns, villages and landscapes across Angus
• You’ll enjoy flexible and agile working arrangements
• You’ll join a team that values creativity, collaboration and fresh thinking
