Closing Date: Friday 30 October 2026

Argyll & Bute Chief Officers Group is seeking an experienced, dynamic and values-driven leader to shape adult protection practice across Argyll and Bute, bringing independent oversight, constructive challenge and shared purpose to two vital multi-agency partnerships; the Adult Protection Committee and the Violence Against Women and Girls Committee.

About the role

This is a significant leadership opportunity at the heart of Argyll and Bute’s public protection system. Working on behalf of the Chief Officers Group, the Independent Chair will bring constructive challenge, clear direction and visible leadership to multi-agency arrangements that protect adults at risk of harm and support our collective response to violence against women and girls.

The postholder will work across agencies, public bodies and local communities to build shared ownership, strengthen assurance, and lead a programme of continuous improvement. The role is not simply to chair meetings: it is to help the partnership learn, improve and act together so that practice is safe, more consistent and more effective for people and communities across Argyll and Bute.

How you will make an impact

  • Provide strategic leadership, independent oversight and assurance for the Adult Protection Committee and Violence Against Women and Girls Committees.
  • Convene and oversee the core functions of both committees in line with legislation, national guidance and local priorities.
  • Drive forward annual business plans, improvement activity and the development of effective multi-agency practice.
  • Champion a culture of learning, robust quality assurance and evidence-informed improvement, turning insight into action across the public protection landscape.
  • Represent the Argyll and Bute partnership in national networks and contribute to national developments, including engagement with Scottish Government where appropriate.
  • Build strong, respectful and purposeful relationships across agencies, encouraging collaboration, accountability and shared ambition.

About you

We are looking for someone with substantial senior strategic leadership experience, sound judgement and a strong understanding of adult and public protection. You will be confident operating at executive level, able to provide proportionate challenge, and skilled in bringing partners together around a shared improvement agenda. A degree-level qualification, relevant professional qualification and registration with an appropriate professional body are essential. A management qualification and evidence of significant leadership success are desirable.

To make an application please submit a CV to Pippa Milne, Argyll & Bute’s Chief Executive via email: pippa.milne@argyll-bute.gov.uk

Applicants should note that:-
