Hours: 36 per week

The Sustainable Construction Delivery Team within the City of Edinburgh Council wishes to appoint an Architectural Manager to lead the inhouse Architectural design team on a wide variety and complexity of projects.

You should be degree qualified in architectural design and hold a full membership of the RIAS or RIBA or equivalent professional body. Applicants should have extensive post qualification experience and a proven track record in the delivery of complex, multi million pound projects both new build and alteration/extension to existing properties. Applicants should also have a proven ability of successfully managing a team of professional architectural designers and have experience of managing a staff budget and time sheet resourcing and professional fee recovery.

A key function will be to manage Client and user expectations within the limits of the financial allocation of projects. It is expected you will have post qualification experience in design and project/contract management, as well as experience of working as part of a professional design team. Experience and a working knowledge in MS Office and other related software packages is essential. Also you are required to have a solid understanding of Passive Haus design for new build and Retrofit design in existing and operational buildings.

You should have good communication skills both written and verbally and be able to present well as a representative of the Council. This position would suit a dynamic, client focused, personable and technically strong designer with previous people, project and client management experience.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
