Clerk of Works
Waverley Court

Salary: £33,287 - £39,129
Hours: 36 per week

An opportunity has arisen within Roads & Infrastructure for the permanent post of Clerk of Works. This post is notionally based at the Council's Headquarters, Waverley Court, but generally this is a site-based post with some office and home-based working.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to undertake this challenging but highly rewarding role. The successful candidate should have an interest in bridges and retaining walls, and inspections; previous experience will be beneficial. The Council has a vast array of over 500 interesting bridges and other structures. You will be part of a team undertaking inspections, and managing and co-ordinating the on-site works associated with Edinburgh's bridges, tunnels, gantries, culverts and retaining walls.

The successful candidate will have: -

  • Experience of supervising and overseeing the construction of civil engineering projects ensuring the agreed specifications are met in full and the required quality standards are consistently achieved.

  • Experience of inspecting road structures (bridges and retaining walls) to assess their condition and safety, including identification of remedial works, reporting on standards of workmanship and compliance with national and local standards.

  • Experience in the management of projects, fostering working relationships with contractors to ensure delivery, whilst maintaining excellent value for the Council;

  • Experience in ensuring that all work is carried out with due regard for public safety and traffic/pedestrian management requirements.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours - The City of Edinburgh Council

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Happy to talk flexible working.
