This position is based at Lagganlia Outdoor Centre, Kincraig, Kingussie.
The post holder will be part of The City of Edinburgh Council’s Sport and Outdoor Learning team, Lagganlia employees benefit from local authority Terms and Conditions of employment.
This role offers a unique opportunity in the hospitality industry, providing an appealing work pattern and being part of a friendly dynamic team. You will play an important part in young people's residential experience at Lagganlia.
Working 18 hours per week, with a regular work pattern,
your key responsibility will be to provide set menu, servery style breakfast for visiting schools groups.
Lagganlia is one of two of the Council’s highly regarded residential outdoor learning centres, based in a spectacular National Park location, the centre provides a welcoming work environment and positive team atmosphere.
Lagganlia provides fully serviced educational courses with a maximum capacity of 120 persons. Our core business is school visits, which are in high demand throughout the entire academic year. You will be responsible for the activities of a large kitchen and its surrounds, routinely serving up to 120 pupils a day plus visiting and residential staff.
A vital part of Lagganlia's catering service, you will be part of a cook team of 3 supported by domestic assistants.
Meals served at Lagganlia are breakfast, lunch and dinner with 6.00am earliest start time and 8.00pm latest finish time, regular working pattern is Monday to Friday.
Degree of flexibility
Key tasks are menu planning, allergen safety, cost and waste control,
preparation, cooking and serving food, cleaning and quality assurance.
It is essential you are reliable, motivated and comfortable to work in a position similar to a school cook role, including communication with teaching staff and pupils and committed and able to reach Lagganlia workplace early mornings throughout the entire year.
Experience is highly desirable, however full training and qualifications will be supported for the right candidate with the skills and character required
A growing market of Outdoor Experience packages for groups and organisations at holidays and weekend presents an opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to this aspect of the business.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
