An opportunity has arisen for a Depute Head Teacher at Clermiston Primary School.

Clermiston Primary School is a non-denominational school which serves the Clermiston and Drumbrae area in the North West of the city and has a roll of approximately 470 children organised into 16 classes from P1-P7 and includes 40 full-time children in the nursery. The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) comprises Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher, 3 Principal Teachers (two of whom are part-time) and Business Manager.

Clermiston is a school where everyone is supported and challenged to be the very best that they can be. We want our pupils to develop and show respect for themselves and for others.

Our pupils should be confident in their right and ability to influence change through positive actions in their own lives and in their local and global communities.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work as part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to take forward school initiatives and the school improvement plan.
  • Work within the SLT to facilitate improvements in attainment, attendance and equity.
  • Be a key part of the school’s Self-Evaluation and Quality Assurance work.
  • Be the Lead member of SLT for ASL and Child Protection. This includes regular liaison with Support for Learning and external agencies such as the ASL Service and Educational Psychology. This also includes managing case-loads for individual pupils and overseeing the GIRFEC processes for the school.
  • Mentoring and supporting students and newly qualified teachers within the school.
  • Have oversight of Early Level within the school including management of Early Years Standards and Quality Reporting and Improvement Planning.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
