We're looking for a nurturing and inclusive Depute Head Teacher to join our team to work collaboratively to grow our vision for Maybury primary and ELC: The M.A.G.I.C P.L.A.C.E.
Maybury Primary School is a new school in the west of Edinburgh which opened in August 2024. In its first year, the school had Primary One children and an early learning and childcare setting which opened in January 2025. In August 2025, the school opened to all stages - P1 to P7. Within the school, there are modern, flexible, and creative learning spaces for up to 630 learners, along with our early learning and childcare setting which has a capacity for 110 children across a mix of term-time and full-year places.
Maybury Primary School is Edinburgh's first school to share a campus with a medical centre as part of Maybury Community Hub. Sustainability and outdoor learning are central features of the building design, and these will be brought to life as a key part of our learning experiences.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and enthusiastic Depute Head Teacher to come and join our senior leadership team to support our growing school in the heart of a new community.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and share a passion for developing and ensuring the highest possible quality of learning across the school. They will be required to model high standards of pedagogy to inspire, motivate and support colleagues in the development of their own classroom practice.
The successful candidate will have:
- previous leadership experience and leading whole school improvement
- a wealth of experience leading inclusive practice and GIRFEC
- excellent pedagogical knowledge and a depth of exemplary teaching experience across all stages
- ability to motivate, guide and lead others
- experience of leading learning and continuous improvement
- knowledge of how to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to bring about improvement
- skilled interactions when dealing with children, colleagues, parent and partners.
- degree level education or equivalent Leadership and Management training. Appointment subject to current GTCS Registration.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
