Housing and Homelessness, Low Rise Area Based Regeneration - The Mixed Tenure Improvement Service is a large multi skilled service responsible for delivering high quality essential repairs and maintenance programmes across both social and mixed tenure housing across Edinburgh. This includes social rented properties, shared ownership, and private & landlord owned homes within areas identified for regeneration. We manage and deliver coordinated programmes of works to enhance the quality, safety, and sustainability of both council owned and mixed tenure housing stock, ensuring consistent standards throughout the process.

We carry out government funded investment programmes which includes external fabric repairs and the installation of energy efficiency measures to help our homes meet the Energy Efficiency Standards for social housing, as well as replacement roof coverings and communal redecoration. Our aim is to support residents and homeowners by making sure their homes are thermally efficient and stay warmer for longer.

We are looking to recruit one Apprentice Surveyor to work within the Mixed Tenure Improvement service.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable academic knowledge through study combined with hands on, on site experience in a busy, fast paced Council environment.

The Role

You will study towards a BSc (Hons) in Construction and the Built Environment and will be fully supported by a dedicated workplace mentor. You will develop the right blend of academic, technical, and practical skills to successfully complete your apprenticeship.

You will gain experience in technical surveying, project coordination, resident engagement, and contract management while supporting the delivery of ambitious improvement programmes across mixed tenure estates. This role will allow you to develop strong management, technical, and communication skills helping the Mixed Tenure Improvement service deliver high quality, end user focused upgrades that improve the standard of homes which positively impacts our communities

Qualifications Required

Year 1

  • SQA Highers at ABBB or equivalent.
  • A-levels at ABC or BBB.
  • Scottish Baccalaureate 29 points.
  • Foundation apprenticeship in Civil Engineering in conjunction with SQA minimum AAB. * A combination of qualifications totalling 96 SCQF credits at level 6, or Minimum 126 UCAS points.

Year 2

  • SQA Advanced Highers at BB and SQA Highers at AAAB.
  • A-Levels at ABB.
  • HNC in a Construction-related subject with A in the graded unit.
  • HND in a Construction-related subject with B in the graded unit.
  • A suitable Modern/Technical Apprenticeship.
  • Scottish Baccalaureate Distinction.
  • Baccalaureate 35 points.
  • A combination of qualifications totalling 96 SCQF credits at level 7.
