The needs of learners are primarily associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The school currently has 16 base classes. The maximum pupil:teacher ratio is 6:1, with the staffing model reflecting the support required to ensure that learners' needs are met.
The school has a range of specially equipped classrooms to support learners' sensory and regulation needs. The school is situated close to local primary schools and Gracemount High School, facilitating joint working and opportunities for inclusion and integration where appropriate.
The Head Teacher is supported by one Depute Head Teacher, three Principal Teachers and a 0.46FTE Business Manager. The school has 25.36 FTE teaching staff and 22.96 FTE support staff. A key strength of Kaimes School is our multi-agency approach to supporting our learners, and school staff work closely with Educational Psychologists, CAMHS Learning Disability Team, Allied Health Professionals and third-sector partners in order to meet the needs of our learners. The school has an active Parent Council who support their work.
Kaimes School pride themselves on their positive and inclusive ethos which is underpinned by the school's strong vision: Together we strive to be the best we can be. The school is committed to enabling learners to thrive, by raising attainment and promoting achievement through the development of the curriculum and partnership working to meet a wide range of learning needs. The school values of Respect, Ambition, Independence and Teamwork are at the heart of the school's ethos and vision. This vision is shared with our families and community and very much part of our everyday practice.
Please note, for candidates that are invited for Short Leet there will be a virtual assessment centre consisting of three written tasks.
The Standard for Headship is now an essential requirement for this post. If the successful candidate does not meet this requirement the post may be offered on a temporary basis for a maximum period of 30 months if the panel is satisfied that, on an individual basis, there is a likelihood that the Into Headship qualification will be achieved within this timescale. A permanent contract will be offered only when the course is successfully completed. If it becomes clear that this essential qualification will not be achieved within 30 months then the contract will be ended with appropriate notice and the temporary Head Teacher will then revert to a DHT1 post available across the city.
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
