Justice Worker - Court Team and Justice Pathways Service
Grindlay Court Social Work Centre

Salary: £34,452 - £40,501
Hours: 36 per week

Edinburgh Justice Services are expanding our Bail Supervision scheme. We are seeking to recruit 3 enthusiastic individuals to support this work and other duties, who are willing to work across sites in Edinburgh.

One of the candidates will join our Court Social Work Team that has an office within Edinburgh Sheriff Court. Key tasks include:

  • Completing Bail Supervision and Electronic Monitoring Assessment Reports for people who are at risk of remand.
  • Completing welfare checks and providing support to people appearing in custody.
  • Liaising with partner agencies and other teams within Justice Services.
  • Responding to people presenting at the Court Social Work office.

The other two candidates will join our Justice Pathways Service that operates out of our Grindlay Street Court office. Key tasks include:

  • Supervising people subject to Bail Supervision and supporting them to comply with the conditions of their bail.
  • Collaboratively developing individual bail supervision management plans, which identify areas of need and plans to address these needs, including linking people in with drug and alcohol services, health, accommodation, as well as education and employment supports.
  • Providing progress reports to the Courts.
  • Being involved in the development and delivery of interventions, including groupwork.

Successful candidates must be willing to work flexibly across sites, including Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Grindlay Court Social Work Office, and our Women's Centre who are based in the New Kirkgate Shopping Centre.

Our Bail Supervision scheme is intended to provide a robust and credible alternative to remand in custody, whereby people accused or convicted of an offence (or offences) are assessed as requiring a level of supervision, monitoring, and support to adhere to bail conditions. Further information is available online https://www.gov.scot/publications/bail-supervision-national-guidance/ .

Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a good understanding of the needs of people within the Justice system, be willing to work in a dynamic environment and to contribute to an inclusive culture that values and respects diversity and lived experience.

Candidates will have an HNC in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT+ people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.

Therefore, part of our interview process will be an assessment of how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
