Muirhouse Library

Salary: £25,322 - £27,727 (pro rata for part time)
Hours: 17 per week

Working pattern -
Monday-Wednesday 09:45-13:10 or 16:40-20:05 (as needed), Saturday 09:45-17:05

Our libraries are at the heart of community life and provide a wide range of experiences and opportunities for all. Our staff are highly motivated and are committed to meeting the needs of our customers alongside other community services, We have 2 positions available, at Drumbrae and Muirhouse libraries. Both busy branches that cater to broad community bases. The successful candidates will engage with users and partner organisations to provide dynamic services that delivers excellent customer service tailored to their communities needs.

Libraries are no longer a transactional service where people come to exchange books:- We deliver on a number of key government agendas to support digital inclusion, reducing poverty and inequalities and helping tackle social isolation. Libraries play a key role in supporting goals and supporting educational attainment for all ages through initiatives such as,

• Read Write Count

• Every Child a Library Member

• Bookbug Sessions

• Chatterbooks

• Craft/Activity sessions

• Gaming & D&D clubs

• Adult learning classes

• ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

• IT Support Drop-Ins

• Coffee mornings

• Knitting Groups

• Film Screenings

• Author Events

We are always looking to broaden our services and provide new experiences for our community and so encourage staff to develop and deliver new activities or events based on skills or personal interest.

So, whether it be for babies and new parents, for children and young people, for teenagers seeking positive activities, digital and IT skills for all ages and stages, providing advice and signposting to our older residents visiting the library to catch up over a cup of tea. We offer something for everyone - including books!

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability deliver activities and to work with people of all ages. Successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to engage with people of all ages.

While the posts are based at either Drumbrae or Muirhouse library and the vast majority of working hours will be in these locations, the role is seen as part of the Edinburgh City library service and as such, the successful candidate would be required to work in any of the 27 libraries across the city to support wider service requirements should there me an need.

The drive to work with people of all ages and backgrounds if key to the role and a passion for reading, learning and providing excellent service to communities is vital. If you feel you can demonstrate these skills, please apply.

Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.  Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
