Salary: £36,312 - £42,717 (pro-rata for part time)
Hours: 18 per week

The Outreach & Access Manager works to enable wider access by Edinburgh residents to the City of Edinburgh’s museum collections of 500,000 objects and to its museums and galleries by working with all sectors of the community to foster interest in, and engagement with, the City’s cultural heritage.

Museums &; Galleries Edinburgh comprises 9 museum venues and 200 monuments.

Venues are City Art Centre, Museum of Childhood, Museum of Edinburgh, People's Story Museum, Writers' Museum, Lauriston Castle, Queensferry Museum, Museum Collections Centre, Travelling Gallery, Scott Monument and Nelson Monument

Job Activities

Work with community groups in external venues using museum collections.

Develop effective partnerships with community, voluntary, public and private sector organisations to deliver services in line with Council strategy and policy especially with regard to equalities groups and children and young people.

Liaise with owners and managers of businesses such as shopping centres, retail, catering and hospitality outlets to establish local heritage and other displays.

Advise and assist community based groups and organisations in the development of their own exhibitions, activities and publications in conjunction with colleagues as required.

Give lectures and talks to local organisations.

Liaise with the Public Programmes Manager to encourage maximum uptake of public programmes by community groups.

Undertake regular consultation with users regarding services and programmes, and provide feedback for the Curatorial and Engagement team

Manage loan and reminiscence box services of objects for schools and community groups.

Collate statistics for outreach service delivery and write reports on uptake and development for the Museum Management team.

Ensure adherence to National Accreditation standards when using the storage, loan and retrieval systems for the reserve collections.

Lead, direct and develop a team of volunteers and project staff who have responsibility for engaging with community groups across Edinburgh to interpret the collections of City of Edinburgh Museums and Galleries for people of all ages and abilities; and for encouraging visits to those museum and galleries.

Manage the income and expenditure budget of the Outreach and Access section as allocated and financial support achieved through grant awards and sponsorship. Authorise expenditure and prepare information for inclusion in financial budgets and reports on any aspects of the accounts.

Manage the mechanisms for contracting artists and workshop providers to deliver outreach services in accordance with Council procedures.

Oversee the work of volunteers and students on placement with the Outreach and Access Team.

Lead or participate in project teams.

Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation.
