Pilrig Park School is a non-denominational special school situated in the Leith area of Edinburgh. The school provides education for secondary-aged learners with complex long-term additional support needs. A key strength of the school is our multi-agency approach to supporting our learners, and school staff work closely with Educational Psychologists, the Additional Support for Learning Service, the CAMHS Learning Disability Team, Allied Health Professionals and third-sector partners in order to meet the needs of all learners. We pride ourselves on our positive and inclusive ethos and are committed to enabling learners to be the best they can be, by raising attainment and promoting achievement. This vision is shared with our families and community and very much part of our everyday practice.
We are looking for conscientious, committed candidates with excellent inter-personal and communication skills. You will be working as part of a team and there will be many training opportunities to support you in working with our children and young people. Previous experience of working in a school would be desirable.
* Note - Please read the sessional working information attached to this advert. This explains how salaries are calculated for sessional (term time) and part time posts.
Sessional staff are paid for the total number of weeks they work each year (39) plus the number of weeks' leave they are entitled to, which depends on length of service.
PSAs do not work during the 12 weeks of school holidays, however total salary is paid in 12 equal monthly payments, over the year. There are also opportunities to work in a holiday hub provision during the school holidays for successful candidates looking to work during the school holidays.
Please note that these posts are subject to review and also have a mobility clause meaning there is a chance successful candidates could be moved to a different school in the future.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours - The City of Edinburgh Council
Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
