Reel Youth Media - Music Making Trainee Post

Reel Youth Media is a digital media music making programme for young people aged between 12 – 19 years old, which aims to develop technical and creative skills to enable young people to create innovative digital media content. We support young people to produce all sorts of innovative digital media content.... •multitrack digital audio recordings, • music videos, • video interviews, • digital graphics, • digital photography and video content and • other miscellaneous interesting digital ideas.

The Reel Youth Media Music Making Trainee will be managed by the Reel Youth Media Coordinator and as part of the wider RYM and Totally Sound Youth Music team will support young people to engage in creative music based productions.

We are looking for someone with an interest/qualification/background in music making/ music performance/musicianship skills to support music learning opportunities for young people to engage in contemporary music making and group music learning activities.

The core hrs are 40 hrs per academic term across three terms and the regular hours are Saturdays from 12.30 - 4.30pm. The post is based at Edinburgh College Milton Road Campus. The rate of pay for this trainee post is £12.76 per hour.

There will be additional hours offered throughout the 3 terms to cover a variety of live music events/end of term live events/satellite pathway provision operating from other venues. The 2025/26 Reel Youth Media budget allows for 186hrs of trainee engagement.

The Music Making Trainee post offers a unique opportunity to work with a highly skilled team of experienced digital and music creatives.

As well as being familiar with contemporary music making and have a good level of instrument proficiency we are looking for a candidate who has an interest in supporting young people's learning and creative development.

Reel Youth Media and Totally Sound offer young people a unique space where they form creative partnerships supported by a skilled team of creatives and as a member of this creative team you will play a significant roll in shaping this provision to suit the requirements and needs of the young participants.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
