Senior Capital Works Manager
Waverley Court

Salary: £50,550 - £60,506
Hours: 36 per week

The City of Edinburgh Council is a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation committed to making Edinburgh a great place to live, work, and visit. We take pride in our diverse workforce and strive to create an inclusive environment where innovation and excellence thrive. If you are a talented and enthusiastic property professional looking to make a significant impact on a vibrant city, we invite you to join our team.

We are seeking a committed and experienced individual to play a pivotal role in supporting Scotland’s Capital City on its vision to create a smaller, modern, more efficient, and carbon neutral property estate. As the Senior Capital Works Manager you will be responsible for the delivery of asset management works planning across the Council's operational property portfolio (i.e. schools, depots etc).

Heading up a team of 4, you will lead on the analysis of asset condition surveys to develop a planned and prioritised works programme which focuses on the improvement of property performance and lifespan and the minimisation of Health & Safety risks. Key duties will include financial monitoring and reporting of programme spend as well as ensuring that appropriate procurement routes are followed. In this role, you will deliver a vital service which will help secure value and ensure that the Council’s estate is a safe place to use, work and learn in.

You will contribute to the Council's wider strategic property planning needs including supporting the delivery of the Council's Corporate Property Strategy. The Council is at the forefront of low carbon building design and retrofit and you will play a lead role in driving the energy retrofit agenda supporting the wider decarbonisation of the Council's estate.

Based within the Strategic Asset Planning, the post holder will work closely with colleagues from disciplines across the built environment including facilities management and design teams, as well as liaising with wider Council services.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours – The City of Edinburgh Council

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
