Edinburgh is an exciting city, and this is an excellent opportunity to join us and contribute towards helping all our citizens flourish. We work effectively together to ensure that the most vulnerable within our City get the right service in the right place at the right time. We work in partnership across services with our Health colleagues and a broad range of partners and we have a key priority in relation to shifting the balance of care and promoting more effective early intervention and preventative supports.
We use the Three Conversations approach to understand what really matters to people and families, what needs to happen next for them, and how we can be most useful. We also have the Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013 at the heart of our practice, to provide a range of choices to people for how they are provided with the support they need.
We are looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist to lead and manage several Occupational Therapists and Community Care Assistants in North East Edinburgh. You will work closely with another Senior Occupational Therapist, and Senior Social Workers to screen, prioritise and allocate work to a range of staff in the team.
You must hold a degree/diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy. You must also be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). You will need to be energetic, imaginative, creative, and resilient. You will need to be experienced, with excellent organisational skills and be a clear and effective communicator. Previous experience of working in a community setting and an understanding of the legal frameworks, including Adult Support and Protection, and the Local Authority’s statutory responsibilities are required.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours – The City of Edinburgh Council
