Job Description

Service Director – City and Neighbourhood Services
Waverley Court

Salary: £151,122
Hours: 36 per week

Edinburgh is an outstanding capital city, recognised across the globe as a leader in business, the arts, science and education. The city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and our cityscape provides a unique architectural and natural backdrop to city living. Home to the internationally renowned Edinburgh festivals and the Scottish Parliament, it is an excellent city in which to live, work, study, visit and invest.

With nearly four million domestic and overseas visitors and almost half a million people calling Edinburgh home, it has never been more important for us to make sure our city is a great place to live, work and enjoy. And here at The City of Edinburgh Council we're at the heart of that city.

This is a great opportunity for a senior leader to join our team as our Service Director for City and Neighbourhood Services. As a key member of our Place directorate leadership team, you will be responsible for leading a range of services which maintain the quality of the environment and the safety of our city for our residents, visitors and business owners. You will provide strategic thinking, set and maintain high standards for our service levels and be an inspirational leader to a large workforce. You will be outcome and customer-focussed, with significant experience of leading and championing change and have the ability to drive a high-performance culture across all the services within the division.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours – The City of Edinburgh Council

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Happy to talk flexible working.
