The Firhill Learning Community has a rich diversity of languages and cultures. Several learners have a first or home language other than English and there are 208 different home languages spoken by our children and young people.
As a valued member of the Learning Community Inclusion Team, you will work with school leaders, class and subject teachers, Support for Learning and Pupil Support staff to strengthen school capacity to meet the needs of developing bilingual learners, through strong universal provision and appropriate targeted support. Key areas for this work are learning, teaching and assessment; personalised support; transitions; partnerships (particularly with parents and carers); ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion.
We are looking for an EAL teacher who is committed to race equality and inclusion and who has:
- appropriate specialist knowledge and experience of working with bilingual and minority ethnic learners using inclusive approaches;
- understanding of EAL good practice;
- the ability to work collaboratively with a range of practitioners to create high quality inclusive learning environments;
- experience of working with learners who have both EAL and another support need(s);
- an understanding of good practice in support for Gypsy Traveller and Roma learners.
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
