Teacher of Music
Firrhill High School

Salary: £34,938 - £52,614
Hours: 35 per week

Firrhill High School serves the area of South West Edinburgh. In partnership with our five associated primary schools Bonaly, Colinton, Longstone, Oxgangs and Pentland, we strive to "Provide learning opportunities of the highest quality." Our school values are founded on respect for self and others, tolerance and support.

We are one of the largest schools in Edinburgh with a roll of 1300 pupils and 130 staff. This provides us with the opportunity to provide a wide range of curricular, interdisciplinary and extracurricular activities that meet the needs of all of our pupils. We also provide opportunities for personal achievement and support pupils to develop skills for learning, work and life.

We are looking to recruit teachers to join our dedicated staff who will be ambitious for all our pupils and are committed to supporting our young people to develop to their fullest potential.

All staff benefit from a well-structured and responsive Professional Learning programme where staff are encouraged to both develop their own practice and to actively share their expertise with colleagues. We place a particular emphasis on developing leadership capacity at all levels. Firrhill is a Gold Rights Respecting School and we place children's rights at the centre of our practice. This contributes significantly to our school ethos of inclusion, diversity, tolerance and friendship where excellence for all and excellence by all is our constant ambition. The work of the school is supported by an active Parent Council and Parent Teacher Association.

Music is a very popular and successful subject at Firrhill. Both Music and Music Technology enjoy a healthy uptake in S3 and beyond with many pupils progressing to certification in either subject. Music is offered to Advanced Higher and is a popular choice at that level. In addition to the very high standard achieved by pupils through our curricular offer, Music is a hugely popular extra-curricular choice with multiple individuals, bands and ensembles rehearsing regularly and performing at a number of school events and events across Edinburgh and beyond. Led by our Music teachers and our Instrumental Music Service Instructors, Music is an integral part of the culture of our school. With regular slots at the Jazz Bar as well as our biennial music tour to northern Italy the opportunities for pupils (and staff) to perform are many and varied. We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic teacher to join our highly-skilled Music team to maintain and build further on our current outstanding practice.

Further information on the school can be found at www.firrhillhigh.org
