At Kaimes School, we are committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive, ambitious learning environment for young people with additional support needs. We are looking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic music teacher who shares our commitment to relationships, inclusion and high-quality learning experiences for every learner.

Kaimes School is a secondary special school located in the southeast of the City of Edinburgh that caters for 96 young people. Most of our learners have a diagnosis of Autism, and many have a range of other additional support needs. Music plays an important part in our curriculum and wider school life, supporting communication, creativity, confidence and wellbeing. We are looking for a practitioner who can deliver engaging learning experiences for learners working from Early Level through to National 4s and who understands the importance of building positive, trusting relationships with learners.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a highly supportive staff team and will contribute to the wider life of the school. Experience working with young people with complex additional needs is desirable, although we welcome applications from teachers with strong inclusive values and a willingness to learn.

At Kaimes School, we run a Base class model of classes of 6. BGE learners attend music in their Base Class groups and Senior Phase learners in column classes. Music is a very popular subject choice at Kaimes School and we are proud of our learner attainment, with Senior Phase learner achieving a range of National 1 to National 4 Qualifications.

The post provides an exciting opportunity to join a committed community focused on improving outcomes for learners through compassion, consistency and collaboration.

If you would like further information about this post or to visit the school ahead of applying, please contact the school on 0131 6648241.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best.
