An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Scientific Services team at Seafield laboratory supporting our Environment team by provide high quality scientific and technical support in an environment of continuous improvement.
MAJOR TASKS/JOB ACTIVITIES
Carry out analysis of samples in the laboratory or on site using a range of microscopical, wet chemical and/or instrument techniques.
Provide a range of scientific and technical support services to include; collect clean and, where appropriate, decontaminate laboratory equipment, glassware, sampling bottles and storage containers; clean the laboratory premises, particularly the communal benches, cupboards and shelves, fume cupboards, corridors, wash-up area and storage areas; transfer samples from reception area to the appropriate storage places; dispose of old samples or arrange for their disposal in accordance with Laboratory procedures; arrange safe and recorded storage of specific completed samples required for future reference; arrange for the safe return of specific samples as requested by customers.
Provide a delivery and collection service for the Laboratory as required to includes visits to the Airport, Railway Station, etc, to collect or deliver samples;
Knowledge and Skills
Educated to SCQF level 6 (Scottish Highers) in an appropriate science or technical discipline or have considerable relevant experience and demonstrated competence.
Must be customer focussed with good interpersonal skills, be numerateand literate, have good computer skills, and be able to communicate effectively and clearly in a positive and open way withall service customers.
Full driving licence.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people and internal and external customers.

Carry out duties with limited supervision, consulting a team leader or manager for non-routine enquiries work or specialist guidance.
Decisions (Consequences)
Has allocated tasks which must be undertaken to ensure the efficient effective and safe operation ofthe service area. Respond appropriately to enquiries providing a highlevel of service provision to customers.
Resources
Responsible for equipment and materials associated with the post and those required by the service area including use of sampling vans.
Environment – Work Demands
May be required to work out with normal working hours and at short notice to meet the demands of the service.
Main functions will require working to deadlines with regular changing priorities with occasional peak demands including unexpected emergency situations.
