Wider Achievement and Lifelong Learning Development Officer –Outdoor Learning Career Long Professional Learning (CLPL) - Building Capacity, Confidence and Competence - Fixed term for 10 months

The City of Edinburgh Council is embarking on an exciting project to further progress outdoor learning across its schools, early years centres and community learning. We want to combine and develop existing good practice from across Education into a single vision and coherent 3-18 strategy / plan. This collaborative project across Education, involves colleagues from various services / teams: Schools. Wider Achievement & Lifelong Learning. Early Years. Additional Support for Learning. Learner and workforce consultation is at the heart of our work.

The project includes a range of fixed term roles and is designed to support the Education Service Improvement Plan and further embed outdoor learning across the curriculum, including accredited pathways and awards; build workforce capacity, competence, and confidence; and contribute to transforming Learning for Sustainability and secure significant health and wellbeing outcomes. This specific role involves two posts working collaboratively across core responsibilities and outputs: Taking the lead in; co-creating a new OL career long professional learning (CPLP) Education offer, based on consultation and research, bringing existing learning into one offer, and identifying new opportunities via existing staff and partners; presenting the CLPL offer via inspiring and accessible formats; embedding the CLPL offer into wider learning and development processes and booking arrangements; co-creating a teaching and learning loan box scheme (equipment and planning tools); and supporting every school and early years centre having an allocated onsite or local offsite outdoor learning space. Plus, each postholder will lead in one of the following; creating a new and sustainable accredited in-house bushcraft competency award with the aim of every school having suitable and sufficient staff to deliver high quality self-led provision (aligns to existing early years Forest Kindergarten leaders); or embedding outdoor learning ideas into curriculum pathway resources. Both postholders will; contribute to other parts of the project plan in negotiation with the governance group; and work collaboratively with learners, Council staff, the project governance group and partners.

We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate: experience in planning and delivering an outdoor learning CPLP offer - bringing together competencies from across a team / service; competency in delivering bushcraft CLPL (only required for one post); proven, excellent project management skills - delivering significant outcomes via a robust project plan and demanding timeline; energy, enthusiasm and a passion for Outdoor Learning and this project; initiative; and listen to and incorporate the views of others. Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.  Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
