Job Description

The core purpose of the role of the Virtual School Head Teacher is to be relentless in driving up improvements in the educational progress and attainment/achievement of an identified group of young people, including Care Experienced, across Clackmannanshire secondary schools.

The core function of the Virtual School Head Teacher in terms of planning is to ensure that all children have access to appropriate and timely support achieved by collaborating with relevant professionals to ensure plans are of a high quality, with impact and outcomes followed up.

The successful candidate is required to be skilled at creating appropriate support packages with partners, including third sector colleagues, CLD and college that best meet the needs of young people with ASN, enabling them to enter positive, post school destinations.

The Virtual School Head Teacher has a powerful role in tracking the progress of young people and it will require close collaboration and joint planning with Headteachers and others across the service who share responsibility for individual children and young people. Although the young people will remain on their current school roll, they will be coded as attending Virtual School.

The successful candidate will be expected to report on outcomes to the Children and Young People’s Board and to the Strategic Director, Chief Education Officer and Elected Members, as and when required and to provide verbal and written updates on progress with Clackmannanshire Council’s Promise Plan.

There is a degree of autonomy and flexibility incorporated into the post, as the postholder will be required to work across our educational establishments as well as designated periods in Kilncraigs.
