Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is seeking to recruit a Pier Operative based in Balivanich to support the Harbour Master and Assistant Harbour Master in the day-to-day management, operation and maintenance of Comhairle harbours, piers and slipways throughout North Uist, Benbecula, Berneray and Eriskay.

The successful candidate will assist with harbour operations, vessel movements, inspections, maintenance activities, harbour security arrangements and the monitoring of harbour facilities and equipment. The role also involves supporting health and safety procedures, maintaining accurate operational records, liaising with harbour users and contractors, and helping to ensure the safe and efficient operation of Comhairle marine infrastructure.

You should have an awareness of harbour operations and safe working practices, an understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and experience of operating and maintaining mechanical equipment. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and as part of a team, deal professionally with a range of stakeholders and accurately identify and report maintenance issues. Experience of working within a marine safety management system or similar environment is essential. A full UK driving licence is also required.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake travel across Uist and Eriskay and participate in shift working arrangements to support the efficient operation of harbour and pier services.

Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade.
