We’re now looking for a Building Facilities Assistant (also known as School Janitor) to join our friendly, supportive team at Sanquhar Primary. This is an excellent opportunity if you’re seeking term-time, family-friendly work in a role where your contribution is genuinely valued.

 

About the role

You’ll be part of a dynamic, customer-facing facilities team, providing essential janitorial and cleaning support to help keep the school safe, clean, and welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors.

 

Your duties will include:

  • Carrying out general cleaning and janitorial tasks to a high standard
  • Supporting daily building safety checks and health & safety procedures
  • Assisting the Lead Occupier with safe operation of the premises
  • Supporting energy efficiency and responsible building usage
  • Liaising professionally with staff and service users

 

You’ll work both independently and as part of a small team, using a proactive, organised, and methodical approach.

 

This post will support the hydrotherapy pool plant operations within the school, as well as undertaking general janitorial and cleaning tasks, while supporting playground supervision (when required). The successful candidate will be expected to attend Pool Plant Operator training, as well as undertaking any pool plant familiarisation sessions held within Sanquhar Primary School

 

Working hours

 

  • 10 hours per week
  • 2h a day Monday-Friday
  • 52.14 weeks per year
  • This post is fixed term until 31 March 2027

What we’re looking for

  • A reliable, motivated individual with good attention to detail
  • Someone approachable, professional, and customer focused
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills are essential
  • A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

 

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

This post may be suitable for secondment.  Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
