Castle Douglas Community Support Service (including Enhanced Outreach Service)

Band 5 £15.35 Per hour

 

The Learning Disability Service provided by Dumfries and Galloway’s Health & Social Care Partnership supports young people and adults who have a range of needs which may include learning and/or physical disabilities , autism spectrum conditions, mental health related needs and substance use disorders.

 

Castle Douglas Community Support Service provides both long-term developmental support to adults living in their own homes and Outreach support to persons residing in their own and familial homes as well preventing and responding to crisis situations. The service operates across the Stewartry and wider areas and is expanding its Enhanced Outreach Service and is keen to hear from applicants who are adaptable and committed to providing developmental support in a range of different environments and circumstances. As a Casual Link Worker, you will be an important part of a team committed to delivering high quality person-centered services putting Health & Social Care Standards at the heart of what they do.  Supported by a Support Coordinator (Key Worker), you will provide direct developmental support to people in their homes to progress towards accessing community opportunities and achieving important outcomes around personal skills,  independence, health and wellbeing and to fully experience and enjoy adult learning or work-related activities. You will contribute towards personal planning and reviews, team meetings and recording of electronic information.

 

This post offers an exciting opportunity for people who may be interested in developing a working understanding of Social Care or for those that feel they have the skills and availability compatible with the role. The nature of the relief post aligns stated availability with predicted service needs including sickness and holiday cover and where the service demand has grown. By its nature the role is required throughout the day and night 7 days per week including weekend and sleep-in work when required.  

 

You must hold a qualification at SVQ 2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent to commence at Band 5 level however if you do not hold a qualification at SVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent but meet the other essential criteria on the Person Specification, you may still be eligible for interview for a Relief Link Worker position at Entry Level Band 4 whilst you are supported to undertake and/or complete the necessary qualification. You will receive regular supervision and support for your professional development in this role with opportunities for learning and training.

 

Requirements

You must have some experience of providing support to people with additional support needs, for example learning/physical disability, older adults or mental health conditions. You must be a team player, committed to supporting and enabling people to live fulfilled lives and to supporting service improvements. An ability to use basic computer applications is desirable but training can be given.  

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

 

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
