Our Employability, Skills and Partnerships service operates across Dumfries and Galloway supporting the delivery of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s strategic priorities. The Service directly contributes to and supports the ambitions set out in the Local Outcomes Improvement Plan 2017-2027, The Local Employability and Skills Partnership Delivery Plan and National Strategies including No One Left Behind and Bringing Hope, Building Future’s.
We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Fairer Futures (Child Poverty) Key Worker, to join Dumfries and Galloway Council and support children and families experiencing poverty. You will work directly with individuals and families facing multiple and complex barriers, helping them to access the right support, build confidence, establish stability and resilience and help them to progress towards learning, training, volunteering and sustainable employment.
This role is part of our contribution to the SG's Fairer Futures Partnership (FFP) programme, a transformational pilot reshaping how services support whole families. By building trusted relationships and connecting families with local services, you'll play a vital role in improving outcomes for children and families and creating brighter futures across our communities
This is a unique opportunity to be part of supporting our family voice to be front and centre of the change across Dumfries and Galloway, working in partnership with local services, communities and national stakeholders all with the aim of improving outcomes for children and families.
Key responsibilities;
- Manage a caseload of families, providing 1-2-1, and group support where relevant, to help provide support and stability from where they can grow their confidence and resilience
- Act as a pathfinder, walking alongside families, connecting them with local services, ensuring they can access holistic support through a single point of contact
- Support the delivery of externally funded programmes and contribute to service improvement through live feedback
- Build strong relationships with internal teams, external agencies and placement providers to create tailored opportunities
- Deliver high-quality relationship led support, which encourages families’ ambitions around their learning and employment needs
Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience of working with individuals facing poverty and complex barriers to employment and have associated specialist knowledge. They should have an understanding of trauma informed practise, issues caused by poverty stigma and the importance of lived experience in service improvement.
Requirements
The role requires strong partnership working and the skills to engage effectively with a range of key stakeholders, including service providers and employers.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and data recording skills, including confidently using digital tools.
An understanding of relevant local and national strategies, delivery framework and funding is desirable.
A flexible, empathetic and non-judgemental approach are essential with kindness a core behaviour.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement for this post, however if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is fixed term funded until 31 March 2027.
This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
