Are you looking for a new challenge?
If you have a good understanding of food hygiene and enjoy working with businesses and the public, then the Environmental Health team would love you to join them in this exciting new role.
This role involves the inspection of business premises to check for compliance with food safety laws and to give advice, as well as the investigation of food-related complaints from members of the public.
You will assist in the registration process for new businesses and contribute to the certification process for exported foods.
You must have good IT skills and the ability to use a digital platform for data entry and retrieval. You will need a driving licence and have good time management skills and the ability to work under pressure, dealing with all sorts of food related issues in a professional manner.
Ideally, we are looking for someone who has the REHIS Higher Certificate in Food Practice but would be happy to train the right candidate who has a relevant food science or technology qualification at SCQF level 8. Candidates who do not have these are still welcome to apply for the Level 1 or Level 2 trainee posts. The successful candidate may require to be appointed at a level lower than their application, but this would only be until essential training is completed.

Salary placing is dependent on experience and qualifications.
As a Trainee Food Safety Officer, you will have a reduced level of responsibility and will be focussed on acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to become a competent and qualified Food Safety Officer.
There may be an occasional need to work unsocial hours to fit in with food operator business times but there may also be flexibility to adopt a work pattern that suits you.
