You will be responsible for supporting the Principal Health and Safety Officers and HR Manager in influencing the health and safety culture and ensuring compliance with all aspects of health and safety legislation and approved industry best practice.
The Council Health and Safety Team, between us, support a wide range of front-line services supporting our communities. This particular vacancy is to lead and support our colleagues in Construction, Building and Engineering projects. It is an exciting time to join the council with projects the design and build of a zero waste park in dumfries, building a new school and various regeneration projects. This is in addition to health and safety support for maintaining our council buildings and infrastructures.
You will also have the benefit of support from your colleagues within the team and also at times support other areas across the range of council services.
You will engage on, prepare and review health, safety and wellbeing arrangements; provide professional health and safety advice and work closely with managers and employees in avoiding, reducing and managing health and safety risks and supporting on practical solutions; conduct site visits; provide support on incident investigations; and pro-actively monitor, audit and review health and safety arrangements for continuous improvement.
Ideally you will be CMIOSH and have the NEBOSH Diploma/MSc in Occupational Health and Safety/equivalent, however, we will consider those who have the NEBOSH UK health and safety certificate and have substantial relevant industry-related health and safety experience with a commitment to achieve diploma in 2 years*. A full valid driving licence is essential.
