Do you want to play a key role in safeguarding archives and digital heritage for future generations?

We are excited to announce a brand‑new opportunity for a qualified and motivated archives professional to lead on digital collection management and preservation at Dumfries and Galloway Council.

About the Role

As Team Leader (Digital Collections and Catalogues), you will take a leading role in developing and delivering our digital preservation programme.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

- Support digital collection management and preservation in line with organisational strategic objectives and professional best practice;

- Assist and support the transfer of born‑digital records into the archive, ensuring compliance with archival and information management standards;

- Work collaboratively to digitise collections for preservation purposes and to enhance public access;

- Develop, support, and manage digital volunteer projects, helping volunteers contribute meaningfully to digital heritage activities;

- Support all aspects of Heritage Services delivery and promotion, contributing to public engagement, outreach, and service development.

About You

You will be a qualified archivist (or hold a degree and Archive Certificate) with:

- In-depth knowledge of digital preservation standards, tools, and workflows;

- Experience in managing born‑digital and/or digitised collections;

- Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work with colleagues, volunteers, and stakeholders;

- A commitment to accessibility, long‑term preservation, and innovative approaches to digital heritage.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

Why Join Us?

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of our digital preservation work from the ground up. You’ll be part of a friendly, dedicated Heritage Services team making a real impact on the preservation and accessibility of our area’s cultural memory.

If you’re ready to make a difference in the world of digital archiving, we’d love to hear from you!
