Sanquhar Academy is located in the Upper Nithsdale area of Dumfries and Galloway, serving the Royal Burgh of Sanquhar and the neighbouring villages of Kirkconnnel, Kelloholm and Wanlockhead.

 

Sanquhar is within easy reach of large parts of Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire and Lanarkshire.

 

We are looking to appoint a passionate and committed Principal Teacher to help lead our caring, established team and to ensure that we make a real difference to children’s lives.

The successful candidate will exhibit experience of leading and managing aspects of school improvement and will have demonstrable knowledge of a breadth of teaching skills. They will join a committed team and will share responsibility for the effective leadership of Sanquhar Academy, including tasks such as supporting and line management responsibility for colleagues, delivering the National Improvement Framework, developing partnership working, ensuring all learners are included, engaged and involved and enhancing our culture of self-evaluation. The successful candidate will display a commitment to working in partnership with staff, parents and the wider community to provide quality learning experiences, helping to equip pupils with the skills to become successful, confident and responsible contributors to the world they live in.

 

This post represents an excellent opportunity to be innovative in leading and developing high quality learning and teaching, sustaining improvement and raising achievement and attainment with the best outcomes for all our learners.

This post is temporary until August 2025.

This position may be suitable for a Secondment, Line Management approval should be sought before applying for the position.

 

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.

 

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

 

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
