You will play a key role in strengthening Dumfries and Galloway Council’s ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies, working alongside the Principal Resilience Adviser to help shape a safer, more resilient region. This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward programmes that build community resilience and make a real difference in reducing the impact of major risks across our communities. You will also contribute to strengthening the Council’s approach to identifying, managing and reducing corporate risks, ensuring the organisation remains resilient and able to deliver essential services.
As part of a dynamic and supportive team, you will bring motivation, strong organisational skills and excellent communication. You’ll work closely with partners across a wide range of agencies, using your IT skills, teamwork and initiative to deliver high quality outcomes. Day‑to‑day, you will help develop and enhance our approach to emergency planning and resilience—corporate, community and multi‑agency. You will represent Dumfries and Galloway within the Local Resilience Partnership and the wider West of Scotland Resilience Partnership, ensuring the Council is well‑prepared to manage disruptive challenges and fully meets the objectives of the Major Emergency Scheme and its statutory duties under civil contingencies legislation.
A full driving licence is essential, although we will consider reasonable adjustments for candidates who cannot hold one due to a disability.
This is a varied and rewarding role, working 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with the flexibility to support occasional evenings or weekends when needed. You will also take part in regular standby duties as a Duty Resilience Officer for which payment will be given.
