This is an exciting opportunity to join the Out of Hours Social Work Service. The successful candidate will work on a rota shift basis covering evenings, nightshifts, and weekends. The current Out of hours Service is undertaking a review therefore shift patterns may be subject to change.
We are looking for an enthusiastic frontline experienced Social Worker to join the Out of Hours Social Work team. You will respond to referrals received, and will undertake assessments of risks and needs, to determine and implement appropriate supports and plans for vulnerable children, young people, adults and their wider families / networks (ensuring that they are safe and protected from harm). 
 
You will be part of a small, inclusive, and supportive team of staff – who are eager to develop and improve the quality of service provided out of hours. 
Your core task will be to provide a Social Work response to the Out of Hours Service as directed by the Senior Social Worker on duty. Working in line with Dumfries and Galloway Social Work service policy and procedure, you will undertake assessment of both need and risk determining an appropriate plan of action within the context of an Out of Hours service. As well as having excellent communication skills, good time management and be able to flexible where necessary, you will be a self-motivated individual who can work creatively with resources available, both independently and as part of a team.  You will have the necessary skills to develop and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues and partner agencies.
It is important that you are someone who can take ownership for your own learning and development, identifying any unmet training needs. 
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
