We are seeking an experienced and motivated Social Work professional to lead our Mental Health Social Work Team.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in the delivery of statutory mental health and adult social work services across Dumfries and Galloway. You will lead a team of professionally qualified staff, oversee the Mental Health Officer function, and work collaboratively with a range of health and social care partners to deliver high-quality, person-centred services.

 

As a member of the management team, you will contribute to service development, support continuous improvement, and help shape services that achieve the best possible outcomes for individuals, families and carers.

 

As Team Manager for the Mental Health Social Work Team, you will provide leadership and direction across a vital statutory service, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred support to individuals experiencing mental ill health. Managing a team of professionally qualified Social Workers and Mental Health Officers, you will oversee the effective delivery of statutory duties while promoting a culture of continuous improvement, professional accountability and excellence in practice.

 

Working closely with colleagues across Health and Social Care, you will play a key role in developing and sustaining strong multi-agency partnerships, ensuring services are responsive, integrated and focused on achieving positive outcomes for individuals, families and carers. You will contribute to service planning and development, helping to shape innovative approaches that meet current and future demands while supporting the strategic priorities of the organisation.

 

This role offers an opportunity to influence service delivery at both an operational and strategic level. As a member of the wider management team, you will provide professional leadership, support workforce development and ensure that services are delivered in line with legislative requirements, professional standards and organisational objectives.

 

Requirements

You will be a qualified Social Worker with a minimum of three years' post-qualifying experience and will hold, or be working towards, the Mental Health Officer Award. You will bring a thorough understanding of mental health and adult social work legislation, together with a strong awareness of current policy developments and the wider challenges and opportunities facing health and social care services.

 

As an experienced practitioner and leader, you will be confident in supporting and developing professionally qualified staff, providing clear direction while promoting high standards of practice and professional accountability. You will be able to build effective relationships across a wide range of services and partner agencies, recognising the importance of collaborative working in achieving positive outcomes for individuals, families and carers.

 

You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational and administrative skills, capable of managing competing demands and working effectively within a complex and fast-paced environment. You will be comfortable using digital systems and business tools to support service delivery and performance management, while maintaining a focus on quality, continuous improvement and person-centred practice.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update Check before a formal offer of employment can be made.

 

Applicants who have lived outside the UK within the last five years will be required to provide a police record check from the relevant country or countries, in addition to Disclosure Scotland checks.

 

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post.
