We are currently recruiting for an ASN Employment Key worker to join our busy Employability and Skills Team, as part of an exciting new project working alongside our region’s secondary schools.
This challenging and unique role within the ASN Employability Transitions Team will support young people with additional support needs, to make a positive passage from school into further education, training, employment or any other opportunity which supports their individuals needs and aspirations. Whilst working alongside the clients and their family/carers there will be a role to support the whole family’s employability needs, signposting and making referrals as required.
The role will see the successful candidate support young people to identify key outcomes for themselves and to develop an individual plan focussed on their aptitudes and aspirations.
Each plan will feature:
- Academic attainment objectives
- Work-based learning and employability skills.
- Meta skills self-evaluation and development.
- A timeline of achievements with fixed review points.
- Accreditation opportunities.
- Additional activities or engagement with a third-party provider.
This position will be based in schools and community settings and cover our Annandale & Eskdale school cluster.
The post-holders will be expected to be flexible and responsive to demand and work regionwide. The hours for this post are 36 per week however, we would consider a combination of flexible working that can meet service needs.
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, committed and enthusiastic about supporting vulnerable people to reach their potential, through regular planning and consultation with key figures, and the client at the heart of all they do. You will be pro-active in your approach to engaging with partners and employers to achieve placements which meets individual’s needs.
You should possess an SVQ Level 2 in Advice, Guidance, Social Welfare or Community Learning & Development related discipline or demonstrate equivalence. You should also have experience of working with young people and adults on a 1-1 and group basis and have an awareness of the barriers young people and families face around additional support needs. You should have knowledge of a wide range of support services, the local employability sector and the welfare system.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement for this post, however if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is funded until 31 December 2025.
This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
