Senior Social Worker

Stranraer

£28,612.50 - £30,824.50

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Social Worker in the Mental Health Social Work Team. We are a busy, region wide team that predominantly works within the local authority’s duties and responsibilities under the Self-Directed Support (Scotland) Act 2013, the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000; alongside all other adult service legislation that governs social work practice.

We are looking for a Part-Time Senior Social Worker to work 21 hours per week, to support staff and oversee service provision covering the Stranraer and Newton Stewart area. You will require a minimum of three years post-qualifying experience. Supervisory experience and a post qualifying award in Mental Health Social Work is desirable.

You will work closely with the Team Manager and the other Senior Social Worker in team, as well as colleagues from across the integrated health and social care partnership and locality social work teams. A primary role in this position will be the management, supervision and support of a team of Mental Health Officers, Social Workers and Care Co-ordinators in the team.

You will be a self-motivated, dynamic individual who is committed to promoting and ensuring that the adults we are supporting remain the focus of the team’s work.

You will have the skills to initiate and develop effective working relationships with colleagues and other agencies and contribute to the development of service delivery for adults in the local area. You must have the ability to undertake thorough prioritisation of referrals and workload management for a busy and dynamic service.

This is an ideal opportunity to gain managerial experience within a busy and challenging yet stimulating and supportive environment. You will receive good support and regular supervision.

A DipSW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential as is SSSC registration.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a licence,  consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
