Job Description

Leisure & Culture Dundee is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) SC042421. It was established by Dundee City Council in July 2011 to deliver leisure, sports, library, information and cultural services for the city. www.leisureandculturedundee.com Dundee was designated as a UNESCO City of Design in 2014, and in this, its tenth year we are looking for a Project Coordinator to join the busy team delivering a variety of design projects and events with the design sector and in communities across Dundee. This is a fixed term post until 31st March 2025 Hours are 37 per week. Some weekend and evening working will be required. The UNESCO City of Design Dundee team work across Dundee with a city centre office base. For existing Leisure and Culture Dundee and Dundee City Council employees secondments will be considered. Line Manager approval should be sought prior to applying for a secondment.

Requirements

HNC/SVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant subject area and have experience working in the cultural sector.

Responsibilities

As part of a fast paced and dynamic team you will be responsible for coordinating and assisting with the delivery of the projects and public programme associated with UNESCO City of Design Dundee. In the first 6 months your role will focus on supporting the delivery of Dundee Design Festival. Dundee Design Festival will take place in September 2024 at Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc and you will be expected to lead and support the festival’s Creative Director and Lead Officer in aspects of operations, programme delivery, designer engagement, public engagement and administration. You will be expected to contribute ideas, actively problem solve, and support other members of the team in regard to promotions. You must be available for the dates of the festival, 23rd – 29th September and note that no annual leave will be approved between 1st September – 1st October 2024. The team have multiple projects running at any one time and you will be expected to support the Lead Officer in other projects. This will include corresponding with the international UNESCO Cities of Design.

The Individual

The individual will be someone who understands the value of culture and the impact participation in cultural activity can have on communities and individuals. They will be someone who enjoys supporting people to participate in cultural activity, and making things happen. They will be committed to supporting the growth of Dundee as a UNESCO City of Design and finding the best ways to support the city’s design sector. The individual must have excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to lead the delivery of projects, collaborating well in a small team and with external partners. They will be digitally confident and able to work across multiple platforms. You must be strongly self-motivated with excellent communication skills and be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. You will be able to complete and contribute towards written and verbal reports. You will need to carry out financial and budgeting duties including processing invoices, maintaining accurate financial records and creating budget projections. You will be able to seek out funding opportunities, complete funding applications and submit reporting. You will be a confident person committed to supporting others, who thrives working collectively but is comfortable with responsibility and accountability in their role. Flexibility is essential and the individual will be responsive and imaginative in their approach with the ability to problem solve quickly, offering solutions under pressure. You will have experience of delivering cultural programmes, particularly event-based activity of different scales and have the personal and practical experience and skills required to deliver cultural activity which is relevant, engaging and of quality. You will be excited to actively seek out and propose project activity and opportunities in like with the UNESCO City of Design Dundee aims.
