Requirements

You will have British Sign Language Level 3 or be able to demonstrate sign language skills at that level and be prepared to complete the qualification within one year of appointment to the post.

Responsibilities

You will aid the attainment of deaf pupils by supporting them by re-presenting information from the mainstream teacher's spoken English into British Sign Language (BSL) and vice versa for the pupil's response. You will provide capacity to support in meetings with deaf parents and colleagues. You will provide translations of documents from English into BSL.

The Individual

You will have knowledge and experience of working with profoundly deaf children and adults and of the deaf community. You will also be a good communicator, have fluency in BSL and English and able to be an effective team member. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
