Job Description

Requirements

You will have a Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area e.g. Construction, Architecture, Quantity Surveyor, NEBOSH qualifications or equivalent and a willingness to become an Incorporated Member of the Association for Project Safety (IMaPS).

Responsibilities

You will lead on the provision of Principal Designer services for the Council, its service departments and to external public agencies, as directed by the Head of Design & Property or the Architectural Services Manager. You will develop and deliver the DCC corporate CDM training programme and maintain appropriate governance and records. You will develop and implement a corporate policy around CDM management in conjunction with the corporate health and safety team to integrate operational health and safety with CDM. You will provide a high quality flexible and responsive service to ensure that project works relating to the organisation meet appropriate compliance with construction health and safety legislation. To be responsible for the development of a construction compliance team of principal designer/CDM2015 independent client advisors to support clients & design teams in raising the standards of Health & Safety and CDM (Construction Design Management).

The Individual

You will have extensive construction health and safety & CDM experience, of cost centre management and related bid writing. You will have experience of project programming, management of project and staff, experience of JCT forms of contract. You will have a thorough understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and its application, experience of working to a Quality Management System and working knowledge of Microsoft Packages, including Office 365, Teams, Word, Excel. You will have problem solving abilities, computer literate, design and construction software, spreadsheets, contract management and design packages. You will have a high level of communication, interpersonal and presentation skills. Up to date with new legislation and maintains a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments are essential. You will have the ability to undertake site visits and surveys including working at heights. Flexible approach to working hours and capacity to work unsociable hours if required. A Basic Disclosure Scotland Level 1 check is required.
