Dundee is at the heart of Scotland's road and rail networks putting the rest of the country, and the UK, within easy reach. As well as a railway station on the main east coast rail route linking London, and points south, with Aberdeen, Dundee has its own airport that currently counts daily flights to London, Birmingham and Belfast among its portfolio of destinations.

The majority of the council's employees are now accomodated in custom-built city centre office space at Dundee House. The purpose-built five storey headquarters was opened to staff and public in 2011. It offers flexible work spaces for city development, housing, social work, education and customer services teams, with ample meeting space for internal and public meetings.

Several smaller offices in the city's housing schemes provide frontline services to Dundee's 143,000 people, including the environment department whose three main sites provide the base for a wide range of services. The civic heart of the council remains in Dundee City Square.

Located in just 24 square miles the population Dundee City Council serves is diverse and many members of the community face social, ecomonic and environmental challenges. The council is committed to helping people to address these and enjoy the best quality of life possible.

With regeneration and sustainable development as key priorities the council is focused on expanding and improving the local economy, connecting the city centre with the waterfront as part of a massive regeneration, and investing in the future of the city through the education service.
