Job Summary

This post is only available to all permanent and temporary employees and agency workers currently on assignment within East Dunbartonshire Council.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy Community Protection Service. As an Authorised Officer you will contribute to the effective delivery of Trading Standards services to all customers by carrying out the full range of operational Trading Standards activities to protect public health and safety, prevent illegal trading practices, promote consumer protection, and deliver effective advice and education services.

 

You will be responsible for exercising powers and discharging duties effectively to ensure that service delivery meets relevant local and national standards, with priority focus being given to statutory responsibilities and service priorities based upon direction from national regulators. In addition, you will work to continuously improve service delivery and performance of the Trading Standards Team, keeping up to date with the latest legislative and technical developments in the Trading Standards field, liaising with a range of key stakeholders to maximise the effectiveness of programmes of enforcement work, and contributing to the development of continually improving services through input to the service planning process.

 

Applicants should possess excellent communication skills at all levels, an ability to work effectively on their own initiative, and also be able to support the wider performance of the Trading Standards team through a culture of teamwork and flexibility in order to support the overall success of the Council. You will be encouraged to develop your knowledge and skills in one or more trading standards specialisms.

 

PVG / Disclosure Scotland

 

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment. 

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead. 

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary. 

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
