Job Summary

Become a member of our Health & Safety Team at East Dunbartonshire Council, where occupational safety, health, and well-being are top priorities. To ensure that we are always best placed to respond to any safety or health issue, we are seeking proactive health and safety advisors who are ready to take action.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, you will contribute to the delivery of a progressive and proactive health and safety service. You will play a critical role to ensure that excellent health and safety standards are maintained in delivering a responsive service that supports the Council’s priorities, providing sound competent risk mitigation and best practice advice, health and safety application, whilst achieving statutory compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and standards.

Working in a fast-paced dynamic team, the successful applicant should be able to drive strategy to build an engaging, healthy and safe environment and play a key role in implementing the Council’s Health & Safety policy and management arrangements. Duties will include managing investigations, inspections and audits, risk assessments and follow-up control measures, monitor for compliance with the current health and safety processes and procedures and implementing improvements to our standards.

In order to provide a proactive service, the post holders will also be crucial in conducting data analysis to spot trends and participating in the creation of action plans to guarantee ongoing adherence to the law and related improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in developing, implementing and maintaining a health and safety management system, as well as a strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation and its practical application across all Council services. To be successful in the role, you must be approachable, hands-on, staff and customer focused and be an excellent communicator, written and verbal.

Experience in the following would be advantageous

  • Occupational Health/ Health Surveillance
  • Delivering H&S training
  • Managing construction or utility related health and safety

PVG / Disclosure Scotland

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment.

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead.

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
