Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Social Work Practitioner/Mental Health Officer to join East Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership’s Community Mental Health Team. The post is based within the Kirkintilloch Health and Care Centre.

Our Community Mental Health Social Work Team consists of para professional staff, Social Workers, Mental Health Officers who are co-located with Health professionals within an integrated building providing the full range of adult mental health, social work and health services.

The Community Mental Health Social Work Team provides a full range of social care services to adults with severe and enduring mental health issues providing a responsive, flexible and recovery focussed interventions.  

The post holder requires a sound knowledge and strong experience of the statutory duties across Adult legislation, including the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, Adult's with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and Adult Support and Protection Scotland Act 2007.  The post holder will be part of East Dunbartonshire Council’s MHO Duty rota, complete MHO reports for Guardianship applications, attend AWI case conferences, undertake Adult Protection inquiries/investigations and undertake care management responsibilities where required.

The post holder will have excellent leadership skills and will contribute to the service development of the Mental Health Team. The Post holder will also support and assist the Team Manager with the day-to-day operation and management of the Social Work Mental Health Team. This includes providing day to day guidance and support to social work team staff, as well as working closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues.

It is essential the post holder has a recognised professional qualification in Social Work, an accredited Mental Health Officer qualification and is SSSC registered.

The post is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Social Worker/Mental Health Officer, looking to progress their professional development within a mental health setting.

It is essential that the post holder holds a full driving licence.

PVG/Disclosure Scotland

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria.

Where the post you are applying for is considered a Regulated Role under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment. Successful candidates who withdraw their application after the check process has started will be invoiced for the cost of the check.

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by the HR &OD Manager.

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
