Job Summary

East Dunbartonshire Council are looking to appoint Trainee Pupil Support Assistant as part of a Scottish Government funded work experience programme.

Candidates should have an understanding of a good work ethic, be willing to work with others as part of a team and provide assistance and support to pupils with additional support needs, to overcome barriers to learning and participation within all educational sectors.

Trainees will assist with activities on all aspects of personal care needs, mobility support needs and all relevant health and safety matters in relation to individual pupils, within all educational sectors. Trainees will assist with support to pupils with feeding and toileting needs, assist with support for pupils with particular health needs, within agreed Council and school strategy, to ensure their health and wellbeing and assist in the moving and handling of individual pupils where there is a specific need. Candidates should have a genuine interest and use this opportunity to gain essential experience. Previous experience is not essential as training will be provided. The preferred candidate will be required to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme.

This is a temporary role for 6 months for EDC residents who are parents with dependent children with barriers to employment and are unemployed or on low incomes. Eligibility criteria will apply and vacancy conditional dependant on funding.

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

East Dunbartonshire Council will meet the cost of the check.
