East Lothian Council is keen to continue its tradition of harnessing and developing the talent of young people in the local area and as such are looking to recruit apprentices in the following trade/discipline:

Apprentice Electrician

This apprenticeship is restricted to applicants who currently live in the East Lothian area and (due to funding) are aged between 16 and 19 years of age as at 07 August 2023.   (This will be extended to applicants up to 29 years of age who have a disability or are from a care-experienced background).

All candidates indicating in their application that they are from a care experienced background, or have a disability are guaranteed an interview if they meet the minimum essential criteria required for the job (as specified on the Person Specification).

Applicants should be aware that they are only permitted to submit ONE application for ONE of the trade apprenticeships currently being advertised by East Lothian Council

Permanent training position for 4 years.
Working hours are 37 per week: Monday - Thursday 08.00-16.00, Friday 08.00-15.30
At end of appointment period, East Lothian Council will seek to redeploy to relevant trade position, if available.

To start 7th August 2023.

Salary over the 4 years is as follows (plus any pay awards):
Year 1 £16703.57 per annum (£8.65 per hour)
Year 2 £17342.81 per annum (£8.98 per hour)
Year 3 £18620.24 per annum (£9.65 per hour)
Year 4 £19897.67 per annum (£10.31 per hour)

Criteria for Applicants
Candidates should have achieved, or be expected to achieve, three National 4 or 5 qualifications,  which must include Maths, English and one other subject. Predicted grades will be accepted, however written verification of this will be sought from schools.

Vacancies are restricted to applicants who reside within the boundary of East Lothian.

Due to funding criteria, applicants must be between 16 and 19 years of age as at  7 August 2023.

Job Details

To be trained as an Apprentice Electrician carrying out maintenance work for domestic and public buildings owned by East Lothian Council.
