If you’re an IT professional who takes pride in building infrastructure that just works -reliably, securely, and at scale this could be the role for you.

East Lothian Council is one of Scotland’s fastest growing local authorities, delivering essential services across a diverse and geographically varied area. Our IT Infrastructure & Security team is central to that delivery, supporting over 4,000 staff and thousands of learners across more than 100 sites, from council offices and schools to remote community locations.

We’re looking for an IT Analyst to join our team, based at our headquarters in Haddington.

About the team
The Infrastructure & Security team designs, operates, and secures the Council’s network and server estate end to end. Our environment is technically varied, spanning enterprise networking, Microsoft server and cloud platforms, and a growing security capability. The scale and visibility of our work make it both challenging and genuinely rewarding.

The role
Your primary focus will be supporting, maintaining, and developing the Council’s voice and data wide area networks. Over time, there is real scope to broaden into other areas of infrastructure and security, aligned to your interests and development.

This is not a passive support role. You’ll contribute to how the network evolves, support digital transformation initiatives, and help ensure our infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and fit for the future.

What you’ll be doing
- Supporting and developing enterprise network, server, storage, and cloud services
- Contributing to the evaluation and rollout of new technologies
- Providing Level 1-2 technical support with a customer focused approach
- Working with colleagues across IT and the wider organisation on infrastructure and security projects
- Offering technical input to support council-wide digital transformation

What we’re looking for
You’ll have experience in enterprise IT infrastructure, ideally with a network or Microsoft background, along with strong analytical skills and attention to detail. You take ownership, communicate clearly, and approach problems methodically.

Relevant certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, or networking qualifications) are desirable but not essential. We’ll support your development where it matters.

What we offer
- Flexible working, including hybrid options
- A supportive and collaborative team
- Genuine opportunities for learning and career progression
- Work that makes a real difference to our communities

Home/Hybrid Working Consideration
Applications for home or hybrid working will be considered for this post in accordance with East Lothian Council’s Home Working and Worksmart Policies which can be found here. Home or Hybrid working options can be discussed with candidates invited for interview

Please Note:
All home/hybrid workers must live in the UK. Where an application for home-working is supported, it will be subject to a satisfactory trial period. Employees will be expected to attend Council offices for the duration of induction, and be on site in East Lothian workplaces, as required. Employees with a hybrid working arrangement in place will be office based and able to work from home, with permission, on an ad hoc basis
