An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Modern Apprentice to join the Regulatory Service Team at East Lothian Council.

As part of East Lothian Council's 'Support for Employability' commitment to promote youth opportunities in the County, this post is open to those who are aged 16 – 19 and reside in East Lothian. (For those who are disabled or care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29). You will be asked to confirm you meet this criteria when you complete the application form.

This opportunity is fixed term for 2 years. The post will be based at John Muir House in Haddington.

The Modern Apprentice in Regulatory Services is a new and exciting opportunity to gain valuable work experience in wide range of compliance and enforcement duties undertaken by East Lothian Council. This includes illicit trade, doorstep crime, consumer product safety, age related sales, food safety, animal health & welfare, public health and environmental crime.

During this 2-year modern apprenticeship, the successful applicant will based within our Trading Standards team and will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with a number of teams undertaking regulatory activities such as advising and assisting businesses, complaint investigations, business inspections, test transactions and targeted projects. As part of this apprenticeship, the successful applicant will undertake a SVQ Level 7 in Regulatory Services in partnership with Edinburgh College.

This Apprenticeship will appeal to you if you’re interested in working in and pursuing a career in a regulatory environment.

You don’t need to have any previous experience although you should have English and at least three other National 5 level qualifications at a Band A – C. Having Higher English and Maths is desirable, a science subject is also desirable (preferably Physics or Biology). During the selection process we’ll look for you to demonstrate the key strengths we know you’ll need to be successful; ambition, determination, adaptability, personality, ownership, pro-activeness and being willing to learn.

Home Working Consideration

Job Details

To undertake a Modern Apprenticeship and provide an efficient and effective support service to assist with managing the risks associated with delivering and maintaining services in our local communities.

This will include learning about the roles and duties within the Protective Services teams for Trading Standards; Environmental Health and Community Protection.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
A minimum of SVQ1/Standard Grade General level English/Maths or National 4 English/Maths or Literacy Numeracy or Intermediate 1 Communication/Numeracy and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

To be fully competent in the role the Jobholder must undertake a period of study to obtain SCQF Level 7 is Regulatory Services.
