An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Modern Apprentice to join our Council Tax & Business Rates Team, based at John Muir House in Haddington.
This apprenticeship offers a great introduction to the work of East Lothian Council’s Revenues Service. You will gain valuable experience in an office environment while working towards an SVQ Level 3 in Business & Administration. The post is offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months.
Who can apply?
As part of East Lothian Council's 'Support for Employability' commitment to promote youth opportunities in the County, this post is open to those who are aged 16 – 19 and reside in East Lothian. About the role
You will provide administrative support within the Council Tax & Business Rates Team. This role will help you develop key workplace skills, including communication, organisation, and teamwork.
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Answering telephone enquiries
- Responding to emails
- Assisting with electronic document management
- Word processing
- Supporting a range of general administrative tasks
You will receive training in specialist systems. A basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook) would be beneficial.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly and confident communicating with colleagues and the public
- Flexible and willing to learn
- A strong team player
You must also demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills, such as a minimum of three National 4/5 qualifications, including English and Mathematics.

To undertake a Modern Apprenticeship Business Administration Level 3 and provide an efficient and effective clerical support to the Revenues Service.
