An excellent opportunity to join the Roads Operations Service of East Lothian Council as a Modern Apprentice Road Worker. You will work within the Service to learn a variety of skills within the role including how to operate items of road construction plant and work as part of a team of experienced roadworkers. The work undertaken will range from small drainage works to major road resurfacing projects and include opportunities to participate in construction of new roads and pavements. You should enjoy working outdoors and be prepared to work in all weather conditions.

The apprentice will attend an appropriate college out with East Lothian. The training programme for development will be over a two year period and you must achieve milestone targets related to the completion of the SVQ Level 2 framework as agreed on the Individual Training Plan. Failure to meet these targets may result in the termination of the apprenticeship. You will be 16-19 years old (or an official 2019 summer leaver) and be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm this role and have a commitment to learn. Job Details

To learn and develop the skills to maintain and construct roads, drains and footpaths, leading towards full completion of the Modern Apprentice training and qualification programme within the set timescales.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
A minimum of National 4 English/Maths or Literacy/Numeracy or Intermediate 1 Communication/Numeracy or SVQ1/Standard Grade General level English/Maths and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

Driving Licence
A full current driving licence is desirable for this post.
